Incredible Dubai

Dubai is a city and emirate in the United Arab Emirates known for luxury shopping, modern architecture, beautiful deserts and man made wonders. The best time to visit Dubai would be around November to March. Here’s what you can do if you have 5 days in Dubai.

DAY-1

The first glimpse of Dubai as we step out of the airport is amazing.I was really fascinated with the infrastructure, given the fact that all these super tall buildings were built on a desert. We stayed in a hotel called Rose Rayhaan on the Shek Zayed road (the main road in Dubai and stretches for about 20km).

In the evening, we went to BURJ-AL-ARAB, one of the most luxurious hotels in the world. The building itself was a treat to the eye and the interiors were even more beautiful. It was my mom’s birthday so we decided to celebrate it in Al MAHARA, which is an underwater restaurant in Burj-Al-Arab. The whole experience was like a dream. There were so many beautiful, colourful fish swimming in the sea all around us while we were enjoying world class food.

DAY-2

We visited the Dubai Mall on the next day. It is one of the biggest malls in the world. The tourists say that you need at least 3 full days to cover the entire mall. It has shops with brands from all over the world and there isn’t a thing that you cannot find in the Dubai mall. Apart from the amazing shopping experience, the mall also has other attractions to entertain the tourists. It has an olympic size ice rink where the visitors can go skating. The mall also has an underwater zoo and a giant aquarium that has many variety of fish including sharks and sting rays. Dubai mall is anything but a typical mall.

After spending the entire morning and afternoon at the Dubai mall, we then went to Burj Khalifa – the tallest building in the world. There was an entrance to the Burj Khalifa visitor point from the mall directly. We were then taken in elevators to the highest viewing point which was in the 148th floor at about 1820 feet above ground level. We could see entire Dubai from this point.

In the evening we went to watch the Dubai fountain show which is just outside the Dubai mall and in front of Burj Khalifa. It is the world’s second largest choreographed fountain show and the play of water with perfectly synced lights and music was brilliant.

DAY-3

Dubai is known for gold and whether or not you buy gold, it is a must for you to walk through the dazzling and glittering gold souk. It is a market where gold coins and ornaments are literally sold on the streets. With more than 300 retailer shops, there is no design that you cant find in this market.

Now comes my most favourite part of the entire Dubai Trip – The desert Safari!!  A huge white jeep came to pick us up from our hotel. After 30 kms drive out of the city, all that we could see was oceans of sand in all directions. We went on the sand dunes on high speed. It was amazing! Felt like I was a part of an action movie haha.  It was like a crazy roller coaster ride.

We then went to the ‘Arabian Nights’ themed desert camp. The camp was in the middle of the desert and each family were given a round table. There were a couple of shops in the camp where we could buy some of the traditional Dubai arts and crafts and there were also other fun activities like camel rides, sand surfing and dressing up in traditional Dubai attires. There was a buffet being served with Arabian cusine. In the middle of the camp, there was a stage setup where we had live performances like tanoura dance and belly dance. It was a full moon night and the star gazing after the dinner was amazing. The desert Safari was my favourite part of the trip.

DAY – 4

Palm Jumeirah – The only man made islands in the world. We took a mono rail on the palm islands to go to Atlantis which is another famous attraction in Dubai. It is based on Atlantis – The Lost World. There was a simulation of the lost world  under the sea.  After having a yummy thai lunch at the Atlantis we went to the Mall of Emirates which is  another popular mall in Dubai for some more shopping 🙂

DAY – 5

Dubai is also famous for its spices. A visit to the traditional Dubai spics souk is also a must. You will find bags of spices, incense, rose petals and traditional medicinal products outside every stall. The entire atmosphere around the spice souk is filled with aroma of the various herbs and spices sold there.

After buying some spices and dates, we went to the Dubai museum. It is located in the Al Fahidi Fort, and is one of the oldest buildings in Dubai. This museum has various images and maps and tells the story of the development of Dubai. In the evening, we went to the Jumeirah beach from where we could see the Burj Al Arab. The evening at the beach was the perfect way to end an amazing trip 🙂
